Global mining equipment leader Weir Minerals has shared the latest technological evolution of centrifugal slurry pumps, revealing two core development directions for slurry handling equipment worldwide: intelligent monitoring systems and upgraded wear-resistant materials.

Asad Mohammed, Global Product Manager of Weir Pumps, pointed out that unplanned downtime caused by slurry pump wear and failure remains one of the biggest cost burdens for mineral processing plants. Traditional regular maintenance cannot match the changing slurry conditions in mines.

The newly optimized grooved throatbush design for Warman® slurry pumps effectively reduces local abrasion. Meanwhile, the newly developed R801 reinforced natural rubber elastomer achieves 30% higher tear resistance than conventional rubber liners. In fine tailings transportation scenarios, rubber-lined slurry pumps show better comprehensive performance than all-metal wet-end components, easier maintenance and lower overall operation costs.
Sensor technology and AI data analysis are being widely deployed on modern slurry pumps. Real-time monitoring of vibration, pressure and temperature enables predictive maintenance. Instead of only sending simple fault alarms, the system provides actionable adjustment suggestions to stabilize the gap between impeller and throatbush, extending the service cycle of wear parts significantly.
Industry feedback shows that global mine operators are gradually shifting their purchasing logic. Buyers no longer only focus on initial procurement cost, but pay more attention to total cost of ownership (TCO), energy efficiency and wear component life. For mining, tailings treatment, dredging and sand washing projects, customized slurry pump material solutions and intelligent operation systems will become standard configuration requirements in the next 3–5 years.
