Selection Of Sewage Pumps

Sep 18, 2025

The selection of sewage pumps needs to take into account the following aspects:

1. Nature of wastewater: The selection of pumps and materials that are resistant to corrosion and wear should be based on the physical and chemical properties of the wastewater, such as pH value, hardness, sediment content, and corrosiveness. Generally speaking, centrifugal pumps are suitable for wastewater transportation.

2. Discharge flow and head: Select the pump type with matching flow and head specifications based on the actual flow requirements and the layout of the pipeline network. Excessive flow will cause overload, while too little flow will affect the performance.

3. Speed: The selection of speed mainly depends on the actual head and the pipeline system. An excessively high speed will increase the energy consumption and wear of the system. The appropriate speed range should be determined based on the properties of the transported medium.

4. Driving method: Common driving methods include direct motor drive, belt drive, and acoustic wave drive, etc. Direct motor drive has a large volume but high efficiency, while belt drive and acoustic wave drive have a small volume but high cost.

5. Material selection and structure: Based on the corrosiveness of the medium, stainless steel, cast iron, bronze and other anti-corrosion materials are used. For the sealing parts, hard alloy, fluororubber and other corrosion-resistant materials are selected. Mechanical seals or encapsulated seals are used for the shaft seals. Open or semi-open types are adopted for the ecological impellers.

6. Flow regulation: Provide manual regulating valves or automatic flow control devices to adapt to the flow variations under different working conditions, ensuring stable operation.

7. Anti-clogging equipment: Provide sewage disruption devices or sand discharge devices to prevent blockages during the transportation process.

8. Maintenance considerations: When choosing a pump, one should take into account the ease of daily management and maintenance. Mechanical seal pumps are relatively easy to maintain, while encapsulated seal pumps are more complex to maintain.

In conclusion, the selection of sewage pumps should take into account various factors based on the nature of the sewage and the conveying conditions. It is necessary to choose pumps with a reasonable structure, stable performance, and reliable functionality, along with their related equipment, to meet the usage requirements and facilitate maintenance and management.
