The Reasons For The Failure To Start The Submersible Pump And The Corresponding Solutions

Oct 31, 2025

1. When the power supply voltage of the submersible pump is too low, preventing the pump from starting, the submersible pump usually requires a power supply voltage of 380V. The power supply voltage should be adjusted to above 342V. In emergency situations for disaster relief and flood control, the submersible pump must be used, but when the power supply voltage is lower than 342V, temporary emergency measures can be taken: appropriately increase the set current of the submersible pump's protection switch to prevent the protection switch from frequently tripping due to overload during the pump's operation. However, during use, the current of the stator winding of the submersible pump should not exceed 11 times its rated current, and the usage time should be controlled to prevent the stator winding from overheating and being damaged due to excessive usage time and overload.
2. When the power supply of the submersible pump is phase missing or power is cut off, when the submersible pump stops running during use, carefully check whether there are faults in the fuse, control protection switch and protection device in the power supply line, and check whether it is a power phase missing or power cut, or whether it is caused by the action or poor contact of the fuse, control protection switch and protection device resulting in phase missing or power cut. Repair the power cut or phase missing caused by the fuse, control protection switch and protection device; if caused by power interruption, restore the power supply.
3. When the impeller of the submersible pump gets stuck due to the impeller of the sewage pump getting clogged with water plants, debris, etc., causing the submersible pump to stop running, it is necessary to disassemble and inspect the pump, remove the water plants and debris, etc., so that the submersible pump can operate normally.
4. If the cable of the submersible pump is too thin, too long, or has excessive voltage drop, it will cause the power supply voltage of the sewage pump to be too low, preventing the motor from starting. The solution is that when the distance from the submersible pump to the power source is far, the cable is long, and the voltage drop is excessive, the cross-sectional area of the cable should be appropriately increased. If the cable length is doubled, the cross-sectional area of the cable should also be doubled.
5. The contact of the plug, switch, etc. of the submersible pump is poor. When the contact of the plug, switch, etc. of the submersible pump is poor, it causes the submersible pump not to start. The solution is to repair or replace the contact that is poor in connection.
6. The thermal protector of the submersible pump operates. When the submersible pump stops running due to the operation of the thermal protector during use, it is necessary to first check the cause of the operation of the thermal protector. If the submersible pump has a fault, it should be immediately located and eliminated; if it is caused by overload of the motor, the cause of the overload should be found and eliminated; whether it is caused by the low power supply voltage resulting in excessive current of the motor; or whether it is caused by the impeller being tangled with debris, making the rotation not smooth; whether the bearing is damaged, causing the stator and rotor of the motor to rub against each other, or whether the environmental temperature is too high, etc. The operation of the thermal protector indicates that the temperature of the submersible pump has exceeded the rated temperature. It is necessary to wait for the temperature of the stator winding to drop and the thermal protector to automatically reset before the submersible pump can be restarted.
7. The thermal protector of the submersible pump is damaged. The solution is to first check the cause of the damage of the thermal protector. If the cause of the damage of the thermal protector is due to the fault of the submersible pump, it should be immediately located and the fault of the submersible pump should be eliminated; if the cause of the damage of the thermal protector is due to the quality of the thermal protector or the long-term use of the thermal protector, a thermal protector of the same model and specification should be replaced.
8. The stator winding of the submersible pump is damaged. When the stator winding of the submersible pump is damaged and causes the pump to stop running, it is necessary to first check the cause of the damage of the stator winding of the submersible motor, eliminate the fault, and prevent the stator winding of the submersible motor from being damaged again; then disassemble and repair the stator winding of the submersible motor, and replace the damaged stator winding according to the requirements.
