Selection Of Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sealing Forms For Slurry Pumps

Oct 01, 2025

Selection of sealing forms for slurry pumps: The advantages and disadvantages of different sealing methods need to be considered when choosing the appropriate seal type. Selecting the right seal form is an important step in customizing slurry pumps.

There is a pressure difference between the fluid inside the slurry pump and the external atmospheric pressure. The fluid leaks out through the gap between the shaft and the casing. Therefore, a sealing device is needed, which is called the shaft seal of the slurry pump. Generally, all shaft-driven pumps require a shaft seal device.

In traditional shaft seals, packing seals are generally the main type.

After years of continuous development, there are currently three common types of shaft seals for slurry pumps: the auxiliary impeller power seal of the slurry pump, the packing seal, and the mechanical seal.

In the mature market of slurry pumps in Shijiazhuang, the three types of shaft seal forms for slurry pumps have all become widely used. Customers can freely choose according to their needs.

I. Seal of the auxiliary impeller of the slurry pump
1. Suitable for scenarios where the water volume and water pressure are stable, and can meet the water pressure requirements for the shaft seal of the slurry pump;

2. The auxiliary impeller seal has low cost, is easy to maintain, and has simple application conditions.

3. During operation, add lubricating grease to ensure the lubrication condition.

II. Packing Seal
1. The packing seal is currently the most widely used type of shaft seal for slurry pumps;

2. The packing seal of the slurry pump is an economical and practical type of shaft seal.

3. The main sealing method for the ZJ series slurry pumps developed independently by our country is packing seal.

III. Mechanical Seal of Slurry Pump
1. The mechanical seal is a type of shaft seal that has been gradually applied to slurry pumps in recent years;

2. The cost is relatively high. Its main advantage is zero leakage. It is particularly suitable for strong acid and strong alkali media, or for processes with strict environmental requirements.

3. It has relatively high usage requirements and the costs and difficulties of maintenance and repair are also quite high.

4. However, with the increasing awareness of environmental protection, this type of shaft seal is being used more and more frequently.
