New Type Ceramic Slurry Pump

Feb 02, 2026

A slurry pump is a mechanical device that increases the energy of a solid-liquid mixed medium through the action of centrifugal force (the rotation of the pump's impeller). It converts electrical energy into the kinetic and potential energy of the medium.
Widely applied
Centrifugal pumps can be widely used in industries such as mining, power, metallurgy, coal, and environmental protection for the transportation of slurry containing abrasive solid particles. For example, they are used for slurry transportation in metallurgical beneficiation plants, for water removal and ash disposal in thermal power plants, for coal slurry and heavy medium transportation in coal washing plants, for river dredging, and for river sediment removal, etc. In the chemical industry, they can also be used to transport some corrosive slurry containing crystals.
At present, about 80% of the applications of slurry pumps are in the beneficiation plants of the mining industry. Due to the harsh initial selection conditions of the ores, the service life of slurry pumps in this process is generally shorter. Of course, different ores have different degrees of wear resistance.
In the coal washing industry, due to different working conditions, large coal lumps and coal gangue are prone to clogging, which imposes very high requirements on the design of the slurry pump.
In the field of sand selection in seawater, the application of slurry pumps is gradually gaining recognition. However, when selecting sand in seawater or digging sand in rivers, slurry pumps are more likely to be referred to as sand pumps or dredging pumps. Although the names vary, from the structural characteristics and the performance principles of the pumps, they can all be collectively referred to as slurry pumps.
Currently, slurry pump products are made of metal or rubber, including the pump, accessories, and pipelines. Among them, the pipeline products have a shorter service life. Currently, there are some people in the industry researching the production of slurry pump accessories using SiC materials, or adding a certain proportion of SiC powder to the rubber material to extend the wear resistance and service life of the rubber.

The material of the slurry pump

At present, there are mainly four types of slurry pumps on the market:
(1) Metal material: Made of high-chromium (27%) alloy, suitable for abrasive materials with sharp edges.
(2) Rubber material: A relatively practical and smooth paste
(3) Polyurethane material: More durable than rubber material
(4) SiC material: It has a long lifespan, being 3 to 4 times longer than that of metal materials.
Comparison:
In terms of lifespan: SiC > Polyurethane > Rubber > Metal
In terms of price: SiC > Metal > Polyurethane > Rubber
Processing difficulty: SiC > Polyurethane > Rubber > Metal
At present, some domestic manufacturers have already produced SiC products, mainly capable of producing slurry with particles of about 1mm. However, they still cannot produce slurry for particles of 3mm, 5mm and 10mm. Therefore, if the production of slurry for larger particle sizes can be achieved, the value of SiC will be significantly enhanced. This could enable it to fully replace metal materials in slurry pumps with a diameter of less than 1.5 meters.

Performance of slurry pump

Evaluate the performance of the slurry pump:
Flow rate: 2000 - 3000 cubic meters per hour
(2) Range: Vertical height, divided into 5mm, 10m, and 50m.
Currently, the new YZW2020/80 model of ceramic slurry pump is a new type of pump that combines the advantages of German ceramic pumps, Australian duplex high-chromium alloy pumps and American rubber pumps. It features good wear resistance, corrosion resistance and adaptability.
Pump parameters:
Total power: 22 kW
(2) Inlet diameter, outlet diameter: 80 mm
(3) Head: 45 meters
(4) Flow rate: 30 tons per hour
(5) Feed particle size: Less than 5 mm
